The Mater Medical Research Institute is a world-class medical research institute conducting research that is aimed at improving health care.

The MMRI is located at the heart of the Mater hospital campus in South Brisbane. Driven by a ‘bench to bedside’ philosophy, the MMRI's leading scientists work alongside doctors to turn basic scientific discovery into better treatment for patients.

The MMRI is helping to improve treatment for a range of illnesses and diseases including:

  • Cancer including prostate cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma

  • Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Gastrointestinal bacteria such as Helicobacter and Campylobacter
  • Type 1 Diabetes
